Shaping the Future of Tech with Experts
Technological revolutions have historically widened existing social and economic gaps. However, these same shifts also create enormous opportunities . AI will be no different, although the impact will likely be felt more quickly and the changes promise to reshape work as we know it.
At Launchpad, we are working to connect traditionally underrepresented high school students directly to the high-paying tech jobs of the future. Our mission is to ensure that the students and families we serve are well-positioned to take advantage of these emerging opportunities in the tech industry.
As we consider the immense potential and challenges of AI’s impact on the future workforce, we understand that our role is both exhilarating and daunting. The stakes are high, and the pace of change is unprecedented.
Learning and Listening Tour
In January, we launched a learning and listening tour, engaging with over 40 tech leaders, including local and national employers, AI experts, tech workforce development programs, and forward-thinking investors and entrepreneurs. This journey has provided invaluable insights into how we can refine our programming to better prepare students for the rapidly changing tech industry.
While we are still synthesizing the vast knowledge we gathered, several key insights have emerged. We want to share these with the broader community to encourage further dialogue and collaboration on how to ensure underrepresented students are ready for the jobs of the future.
The Pace of Change is Unprecedented
One of the most eye-opening revelations from our tour is the extraordinary speed at which the tech industry is evolving. The timeline for innovation has drastically shortened. Instead of planning for shifts in the next five years, we must now anticipate changes happening over the next few months—or even weeks—as new versions of Large Language Models (LLMs) and other AI tools are introduced.
The rapid advancements in AI and machine learning have created an environment of constant flux, making the future increasingly uncertain. This highlights the need for an agile, continuously evolving curriculum that adapts quickly to emerging trends. To stay ahead, our students will need to develop not just technical skills, but the ability to learn and adapt at the same accelerated pace.
The Importance of Durable Skills
As AI reshapes the workforce, the demand for “durable skills” is more important than ever. According to Forbes, skills like communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence are essential—especially in times of great change. While AI can automate many tasks, it cannot replicate these human-centric skills, making them invaluable in the tech industry.

With over 20 years of experience across the tech industry and workforce training initiatives, he possesses a deep commitment to advancing opportunities in the technology industry for young people. As the VP, Technology Instruction, Rob is responsible for the design and implementation of the program’s final stage: an intense 12-month software development course aligned with industry standards and local employer demand ensuring students are well-prepared and highly competitive in the dynamic tech economy upon graduation.
